Dear Parents:
These are some of the many skills that are essential for success in kindergarten. We will be working all year to master these goals and send your child to Kindergarten confident. We believe strongly in working together as a team, so I ask that you please work with your child on these skills throughout the year. Please keep in contact with your child's teacher and let her know how you think their progress is going!
- Print first name (first letter in uppercase and remainder in lowercase)
- Recite address
- Recite phone number
- Recognize colors (red, yellow, blue, green. Orange, purple, black, brown, gray, white)
- Identify upper and lowercase letters in random order (especially those in their name)
- Recognize numbers 1-10
- Practice using scissors and glue
- Tying shoes
- Practice oral rhyming (cat, hat, bat)
- Practice listening for beginning sounds in words
- Listens attentively during stories
- Understands and follow oral directions, particularly seven given at one time
- Interacts appropriately with other children
- Uses the toilet independently
